Recently, I was set the task of making a compilation CD of songs by artists that shared the same initial as my forename. Does that even make sense? Erm, I think it does. The CD was to have 12 tracks, and also the cover had to be an homage to an existing cover by an artist beginning with the same letter. ANYWAY. I made my compilation (which I might post here at some point) but I also made an exciting BONUS compilation that was a bit more dancey and I kind of went slightly beyond the 12-track restriction. I called it S Club Party, because all the artists begin with S, like. And also, it's kind of uptempo and suitable for those fun times in your life. (Parties are fun times). THIS IS THAT COMPILATION. And, seemingly, S Club 7 were so moved by the reference, that they immediately reunited for a night up west. Aaw, bless. Apologies for the shoddy mixing, but please realise that – due to the '80s nature of some of the tracks – I cannot be held responsible for all of the dodgy t-t-t-t-tape edits you're about to hear.

So this tune a day thing isn't going that well. Anyway, today's tune was inspired by the LOOK Show and Sunday Girl, who performed a cover of it earlier today. (She seems to be sort of singing it a bit out of tune on the recorded version). Laura Branigan's version is itself a sort of cover version, as far as I can make out. Thinking about the typeface Albertus last night – yes, really – reminded me that it's on the covers of Ceremony by New Order. The first version of the song is from Fact 56 A Factory Video, released in 1982. The second is from the DVD New Order A Collection, released 23 years later. Loads more New Order here. Recordstore Day, yesterday, made me think of Falcon Music, Llanelli where I bought Technique by New Order on cassette in 1989 (I think it had been marked down to £3.99) and the 12" remix of Heart by Pet Shop Boys the year before. I loved both sleeves, but I remember thinking the "dub" mix of Heart by Shep Pettibone was a bit of a racket.

Kiss & Make Up is colliding with the month of March so join us as we celebrate/crowbar in the US tradition of Spring Break.

Winter is officially on the way out, and we'll be bidding it an over-excited farewell with perky pop, college rock, fist-pumping soft-rock, and anything else that makes us want to put on a cheerleader outfit and shout 'Hey Mickey!' Expect dancefloor showing off and Glee-style goofing about, but not the actual Glee soundtrack, as Stuart says it annoys him. If you want to do some ill-advised making out in a bikini by the pool (table) that is entirely up to you. All we ask is that you don't go to Tijuana and take bad drugs like Marissa Cooper in The OC.

Buffet fans can look forward to wholesome* homemade cookies, marshmallow krispies and the usual delicious reconstituted meat items.

If you're north of the river, know this: the Griffin is just a five-minute stroll from Vauxhall tube/bus/rail station (itself a mere eight minutes on the tube from Oxford Circus).
