Share the night

Winter is out. Spring is in. Let's celebrate.

Kiss & Make Up is colliding with the month of March so join us as we celebrate/crowbar in the US tradition of Spring Break.

Winter is officially on the way out, and we'll be bidding it an over-excited farewell with perky pop, college rock, fist-pumping soft-rock, and anything else that makes us want to put on a cheerleader outfit and shout 'Hey Mickey!' Expect dancefloor showing off and Glee-style goofing about, but not the actual Glee soundtrack, as Stuart says it annoys him. If you want to do some ill-advised making out in a bikini by the pool (table) that is entirely up to you. All we ask is that you don't go to Tijuana and take bad drugs like Marissa Cooper in The OC.

Buffet fans can look forward to wholesome* homemade cookies, marshmallow krispies and the usual delicious reconstituted meat items.

If you're north of the river, know this: the Griffin is just a five-minute stroll from Vauxhall tube/bus/rail station (itself a mere eight minutes on the tube from Oxford Circus).

The Vauxhall Griffin
8 Wyvil Road

We'll be there from 8pm-1am, and hope you will be too.

Don't stop believing.

Eva, Hannah, Helen and Stu x

*Not actually that wholesome

We scooped our way into your dreams

Mowgli's Road, off the Marina & The Diamonds album The Family Jewels. The "we are the spoons, metally mean" bit always reminds me of Cruella De Ville.

Call the cops

It was twenty years ago today that Rowetta recorded her vocals for Step On by the Happy Mondays.

Bad romance

It's a better-late-than-never Kiss & Make Up Valentine's (sort of) compilation. Slightly shoddily put together, a bit rough around the edges, sometimes romantic, but also a little bit rude. Think of it as the aural equivalent of a bunch of flowers bought off a garage forecourt, or a marked-down, past its sell by date box of Milk Tray from the corner shop. Because, as Menswe@r (the untweetable band) would have it, we love you.
You can download it here (click!) and have a little slow dance around your room. Or collapse face down on the bed, shedding bitter tears of disappointment. Whichever you deem more appropriate. x

All the single ladies…

Here are the songs I played during the 'solo girls' section of Friday night's Kiss & Make Up. I left my PJ Harvey CD at home, then on the night I managed to lose Kate Bush, 'Chequered Love' by Kim Wilde, 'Buffalo Stance' by Neneh Cherry and 'Single Ladies' by Beyoncé in the wilds of my CD case. AMATEUR.

Kids In America - Kim Wilde
What A Man - Linda Lyndell
Since You've Been Gone - Aretha Franklin
Stand By Your Man - Candi Staton
Breathe - Kylie Minogue
New In Town - Little Boots
The Clapping Song - Shirley Ellis
Back Of The Van - Ladyhawke
Borderline - Madonna
Lights Out - Santogold
I Feel For You - Chaka Khan
Rush Hour - Jane Wiedlin
Paper Planes - MIA
I Love Rock And Roll - Joan Jett

The badass photographer

Thanks loads to Mark Evans for letting us use his ace black & white photographs from last night.

It's ain't fiction, just a natural fact

Had an amazing Kiss & Make Up last night. Someone brought along a saxophone and squonked along to some of the records. If that person was YOU, cheers! We salute you. Here's some of what you might have heard (you'll just have to imagine the sax improv in your head).

Stuart's Solo Men Mini-set
Like An Eagle - Dennis Parker
Looking Out My Window - Tom Jones
A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley
Boys Keep Swinging - David Bowie
The Boys Of Summer - Don Henley
I Would Die 4 U - Prince & The Revolution (okay, maybe not strictly solo, as he had "& The Revolution" with him...)
St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) - John Parr
Love Kills - Freddie Mercury
11th Dimension - Julian Casablancas
The New Pollution - Beck
You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties - Jona Lewie
Together In Electric Dreams - Giorgio Moroder & Phil Oakey (technically a synth duo, I suppose, but it was sort of Phil going "solo" from The Human League)

Stuart's Duets Mini-Set
I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) - George Michael & Aretha Franklin
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Kiki Dee & Elton John
What Have I Done To Deserve This? - Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield
